When Life in Jericho Feels Heavier Than It Should
You moved to Jericho for all the right reasons. The schools, the community, the chance to build a life for your family. From the outside, everything looks the way it is supposed to. The house in a good neighborhood. The kids enrolled in one of the best school districts on Long Island. The commute to the city that, while long, feels worth it.
But something inside does not match the life you have built.
Maybe you just had a baby and you expected to feel joy, but instead you feel disconnected, anxious, or like you are going through the motions. Maybe you are juggling the demands of work, parenting, and the invisible labor of keeping everything running, and you have hit a wall. Or maybe the anxiety that used to feel manageable has become constant, sitting in your chest from the moment you wake up.
In a community where everyone seems to have it together, it can feel impossible to admit that you are struggling. But here is the truth: you are not alone in this. And you do not have to keep carrying it by yourself.
If this feels familiar, you are not alone here.

Understanding Perinatal Mental Health in Jericho
Perinatal mental health refers to the emotional and psychological wellbeing of women during pregnancy and the first year after giving birth. It includes conditions like postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, and perinatal mood disorders that affect how you feel, think, and function during one of the most significant transitions of your life.
In Nassau County, one in five women experiences a perinatal mental health challenge. That means in a community like Jericho, where so many young families are building their lives, these struggles are far more common than most people realize.
Perinatal mental health support is specialized psychiatric care designed to help you understand what is happening, explore your options, and find relief. It addresses the unique concerns of this time, including medication safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding, bonding difficulties, intrusive thoughts, and the identity shifts that come with becoming a mother.
A Trusted Psychiatric Provider Serving Jericho Families
Ana Umana-Ramirez is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) providing in-person care right here in Jericho, NY.
She understands how perinatal mental health challenges affect families in this community. The pressure to appear capable when you are struggling. The isolation of not knowing who to talk to. The fear that admitting you need help means you are failing as a mother.
As someone who has personally navigated postpartum challenges, she brings more than clinical expertise to this work. She brings genuine understanding of what you are going through. That lived experience shapes everything about how she practices, from the unhurried pace of her appointments to the way she approaches conversations about medication.
Beyond perinatal care, Ana also supports adults in Jericho dealing with anxiety, depression, ADHD, and the burnout that comes from trying to do it all. Her approach is thorough, collaborative, and grounded in treating you as a whole person, not just a set of symptoms.
Why Jericho Families Benefit from Local Psychiatric Care
Life in Jericho moves fast. Between the commute to Manhattan, the demands of high-achieving careers, and the responsibilities of raising a family in a community with high expectations, there is very little room left for you.
Many people in this area are used to handling things on their own. They are accomplished, capable, and not accustomed to asking for help. But when mental health struggles emerge, especially during the vulnerable postpartum period, that same independence can become a barrier.
Having a psychiatric provider right here in Jericho means you do not have to add another hour to your day just to get care. It means you can walk into an office where someone understands the specific pressures of this community, where you can speak honestly without fear of judgment, and where you can get the thorough, thoughtful support you deserve.

You will leave each appointment feeling more informed and more in control of what happens next."
Imagining What Life in Jericho Could Feel Like
Picture yourself waking up without the weight of dread in your chest. Imagine being able to enjoy a Saturday morning with your family instead of just getting through it. Think about what it would feel like to look in the mirror and recognize yourself again.
These are not guarantees. But they are possibilities. With the right support, many people find that the fog begins to lift. The irritability softens. The connection returns. The sense of being overwhelmed gives way to something more manageable.
You may find yourself more present at your child's school events, more patient with your partner, more able to enjoy the life you have worked so hard to build. Support does not change your circumstances, but it can change how you experience them.
